Description

On this project a simulator of racing boats (regattas) was built to be used in the Museum Príncipe Felipe (CAC) of Valencia for an exhibition. The program allows 6 people to play at once, 3 on each team. Every person can control one part of the boat, and if some role is not occupied, an AI agent takes control automatically. An interesting animated camera system, resembling a real regatta TV program, was developed for this project. Also, it worked in stereo mode, so the engine was adapted to work in that way.

As an application for the XSE engine, I was responsible of all the game logic, plus some add-ons in the engine itself. The tasks done in the engine to support this application where the following ones:

  • Implementation of an animable ocean surface.
  • Incorporation of fast collision system for wave-boat interaction.
  • Addition of interaction zones, for detection of physics bodies entering or leaving regions.
  • Implementation of graphical debug for collision system.
  • Addition of geometry based on parametric curves (for ropes simulation).

As stated, I was in charge of the game logic. That included the following interesting features:

  • Automatic boat control for each individual position.
  • Automatic boat navigation
  • Automatic camera movement, simulating a real TV transmission.
